Most U.S. major airlines will return to profitability by next year, earning a total of about $350 million, an industry analyst said Friday. Credit Suisse First Boston analyst James Higgins also noted that 2000 should no longer be used as a good comparison because the industry has changed since then and because 2000 "was skewed upward by a frenzy of high-end, time-sensitive, price-insensitive business travel."
