Just in time for the October planting, Brazil's Vice President Jose Alencar plans to sign a decree that would lift the ban on biotech crops. About 30% of Brazil's soy is grown from smuggled genetically modified seeds. Monsanto should welcome the news after it appealed to Brazilian soybean farmers to pay royalties on its Roundup Ready soybeans.
