With its lawsuit against file-swappers, the RIAA is not only trying to set a legal precedent to stop P2P, it is seeking to alter the core of the file-trading culture. Judging by the statistics -- new data from the NPD Group suggest two-thirds of the music on Americans' computers is illegally downloaded -- the group could be in for a long fight.
