Garland McMeans Junior High School student Christina Lough was removed as president of the student council and ordered to a week of disciplinary training after school officials confiscated a knife-like pencil sharpener her Korean mother had purchased during a trip to Seoul, South Korea. The parents have filed a lawsuit contending the sharpener is part of their daughter's cultural heritage, but the district says it is merely enforcing its zero-tolerance policy on weapons.
