According to a 1997 study of nearly 30,000 teenagers published in the January issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, American teenagers had the highest obesity rates out of the 15 industrialized countries surveyed. Among 15-year-olds, 15% of girls and nearly 14% of boys in the U.S. were obese, compared with only 2% of girls and .8% of boys in lowest-ranked Lithuania.
