Neuro-psychopharmacology researchers issued a report declaring antidepressants do not increase the risk of suicide in children, despite previous suggestions. In advance of FDA hearings on the issue Feb. 2, the researchers said childhood depression is the major illness underlying suicide and that Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil and similar antidepressants are part of a class of drugs that "represents the medication with the greatest efficacy against this very serious condition," according to the reporting group's chairman.
