The consumer group Public Citizen filed a suit against the U.S. government as part of an effort to force it to ban the antidepressant Serzone. Public Citizen claims the drug, made by Bristol-Myers Squibb, can cause fatal liver failure and notes it already has been removed from the market in Canada and Europe. Neither the drug's maker nor the FDA commented on the suit, but the FDA has said the risk of liver failure is rare and can be managed by warning patients.
