Women who have dental X-rays while they are pregnant have a greater risk of having babies who have a birth weight of less than 5 pounds, research says. The findings add to two previous studies linking dental X-rays with low birth weight babies. While National Institutes of Health officials say the study may not have adequately considered risk factors including smoking, researchers say women should have dental visits before they conceive.
