Food Technology Intelligence has published a report on techniques to improve the quality of packaged foods by reducing chemical and physical changes that occur as the products age. Oxygen-free packaging and anti-microbial films are among the solutions being researched to limit spoilage. Currently available technologies include Starshield barrier PET bottles, which Diageo says extends the shelf life of its Smirnoff Ice drink.
