Many news stories focus on the negatives of herbal and dietary supplements, but there are plenty of positives to such supplements, and when used properly, their ease and relative affordability can make them more attractive. Products including ginseng, echinacea and ephedra are linked to such benefits as helping to prevent cancer, boosting the immune system and facilitating weight loss, but patients need to understand what's safe and what's not.
