In a move to curb the increase in deadly chronic diseases worldwide, the World Health Organization is launching a campaign against obesity. The plan, adopted May 22 in Geneva, recommends people limit intakes of fats, sugar and salt, which are blamed for a major increase in cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Those diseases account for nearly 60% of the 56.5 million annual deaths worldwide that are considered preventable.
