Cement and concrete prices are rising in many parts of the nation, and Dave Brown of cement manufacturer Holcim says a cement shortage is possible on the East Coast. About 22.6% of the cement used in the U.S. is imported, and "China has taken up a large part of cement that's always come to the U.S. from the Far East," Brown said. Florida Rep., Mark Foley, R-Palm Beach, recently told the U.S. Department of Commerce "construction projects have stalled and many jobs placed in jeopardy" by the cement shortage in that state.
