Researchers report significant progress in treating advanced prostate cancer with various experimental drugs and others already in use for different purposes. According to two studies, docetaxel, widely used for breast cancer, can extend the lives of men with late-stage prostate cancer, while another team of researchers reports the experimental drug atrasentan targets biochemical pathways specific to cancer. Another study indicates estrogen may help prostate cancer patients.
