Results released yesterday indicate Illinois students in just about every category improved their performance on state exams this year. The narrowing of the gap between white and Latino passing rates, which dropped from 37% in 2001 to 15% in 2004, stemmed, in part, from the state's decision to allow English-learners to take the IMAGE test this year instead of the tougher ISAT.
