In efforts to reduce design and construction schedules during combat by at least 50%, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers has launched a $23 million, six-year research project called Joint Rapid Airfield Construction. In demonstrating the project's capabilities to private vendors, officials in Fort Bragg, N.C., showed how two 40,000 square foot parking spaces for 175,000-lb C-130 transporter aircraft were built in only three days.
