MRI scans may be capable of detecting nearly twice as many tumors as the more widely used screening method of mammograms, a new study says. MRIs cost much more than mammograms and their extra sensitivity may prompt unnecessary biopsies, but the benefits may outweigh the drawbacks for those with a high risk for breast cancer, researchers say.
