According to a CDC survey of more than 10,000 high school students nationwide, 5.4% of teens, up from 4.4% in 1993, skipped at least one day of school in 2003 because they feared for their safety, even though violence in schools declined over the same period. The percentage of students who said they'd been in a fight dropped from 42.5% in 1991 to 33% in 2003.
