The U.S. travel industry as a whole is rebounding slowly with a 2% to 3% growth rate, but online travel agencies have grown at rates of more than 30%, according to a PhoCusWright Inc. report. The rising popularity of booking travel plans on the Internet led to online sales of $39.4 billion in 2003, but limitations are evident in markets such as cruise bookings, which require more intensive customer service than other travel options.
