In a news conference yesterday, Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge announced federal authorities were raising the alert level to orange, or high, in certain areas after targeted intelligence was discovered regarding potential terrorist attacks against U.S. financial institutions. Police in northern New Jersey, New York City and Washington, D.C., have increased security measures in and around specific buildings, but the rest of the nation will remain on yellow, or elevated, alert.
