German researchers report Viagra can protect mountain climbers against heart and pulmonary hypertension, which causes blood vessels in the lungs to constrict and makes the heart work harder. The study involved 14 healthy males who were given Viagra or a placebo and were tested at sea level and a base camp on Mount Everest. The drug reduced high blood pressure and improved the transport of oxygen in the blood in both situations.
