In the wake of an FDA advisory committee recommendation calling for warnings on antidepressants meant for children, Eli Lilly's Prozac remains the only FDA-approved treatment for pediatric depression, even though experts say it is functionally no different than its competitors. It may be different in chemical terms, but it works on the same principle, the experts say, and it has not been proven safer or more effective than competing antidepressants. A medical adviser to Eli Lilly said "the drug is safe and effective in children."
