Chemical compounds that soften plastic and give flexibility to common household items such as cling wrap, vinyl floor tiles and plastic containers may be linked to the increasing rates of asthma and allergies in children around the world for the past 30 years, a report says. Researchers say house dust containing the compounds, called phthalates, are associated with higher rates of asthma, eczema and other allergy symptoms.
