A spokesman for Endeavor AC, a company that has been in talks to acquire the former Atlantic Club in Atlantic City, N.J., refuted claims that its deal has fallen through. Owner TJM Properties had announced earlier that the property is once again for sale after Endeavor failed to secure funds for the deal. Endeavor's proposal calls for an 81,000-square-foot indoor water park, hotel, ballroom, swim-up bars and meeting space. The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority approved the plan in July.
A plan to expand gaming beyond Atlantic City, N.J., is one of several that lawmakers and industry leaders are slated to discuss at Gov. Chris Christie's gaming summit today. About three-dozen officials will gather in a closed session to discuss the city's future, including training displaced casino workers and jointly focusing on gaming and nongaming revenue growth.
The Organic Rose Day Spa in South Orange, N.J., is the result of a mother-daughter partnership that has carried the duo from their start running a mobile spa to their present-day facility within a fitness center. Sebrina and Sharmayne Foster say they've honed their teamwork over time. "Working with my mom is really great," says Sharmayne. "[S]ometimes there may be things we might not agree on but, at the end of the day, we try to make it all about customer satisfaction." The pair soon will be joined by Sharmayne's younger brother, who is training in massage therapy.
Newly launched White Birch Wellness Spa in West Long Branch, N.J., aims to make a name for itself by offering clients a personalized version of longstanding spa services such as massage. "According to their skin type or what their stress level is or what kind of work they do, [customers] need different types of treatments," co-owner Gee Ranade said.
Construction will start in November on a $40 million, 310-suite Embassy Suites Hotel and 80,000-square-foot convention center in Concord, N.C. John Q. Hammons says the project will cater to NASCAR fans and business and leisure travelers.
