Country-by-country determinations of which genetically modified crops should be produced should be based on the country's needs, the manger of the Global Knowledge Centre on Crop Biotechnology in India said in an interview. Only four crops -- canola, cotton, maize and soybean -- have been modified so far on a large scale, but they cater to the needs of already industrialized countries, the manager said, and other nations need to consider their own varieties of crops.
