Dulles, Va.- based Orbimage won a $500 million government contract to build a commercial spy satellite contract, dealing a blow to Space Imaging, which had said the contract was vital to its long-term future. Space Imaging, owned in part by Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, said that if it had received the contract, the next-generation commercial spy satellite would have replaced an existing spacecraft which has a limited lifetime. Space Imaging executives, who had been counting on the award, say they now have to "step back and look at all our options."
