If the momentum for genetic modification continues, Monsanto would be a clear winner, given its position as the world leader in genetically modified commercial crops. As the field grows, Swiss rival Syngenta could get a lift as well as smaller, private companies, some of which would eventually go public. While there still is opposition, that also has shown signs of fading worldwide, as the Philippines, Brazil, Thailand and several European countries have allowed, or will soon allow, plantings of GM seeds.
