GlaxoSmithKline, responding to a BBC program about HIV/AIDS drug trials involving children in care homes, defended the clinical studies as "legal and not unusual." The trials in New York City have been criticized by some groups, but GSK noted government regulators are encouraging companies to conduct pediatric trials so drugs can be tailored for children. GSK said the trials are appropriate as long as they are conducted "under the most stringent standards."
