Medical researchers warn that in the absence of supporting studies, the current hype over Sanofi-Aventis' Acomplia as a miracle drug to help people get rid of fat, lead them to quit smoking and no longer need alcohol all at the same time is not justified. Researchers note the only information about Acomplia has come from the company, and it indicates the drug is no more effective than two other drugs, Meridia and Orlistat, already on the market. Sanofi has not even applied for FDA approval yet.
