In an interview with USA TODAY, James Mullen said the drug industry knows about 10% of what it needs to know about human biology and diseases, so even though the industry is quickly gathering knowledge, what the industry doesn't know leads to "some spectacular failures." Mullen said while the human genome project has accelerated knowledge, "We can describe things exquisitely at the lab level, but how everything interacts is poorly understood. We're two decades away from a turnaround."
