The first study to look at weight gain among immigrants over an extended period of time shows moving to the U.S. results in significant weight gain. The study found obesity rates to be relatively rare in the foreign-born until they had lived here for more than 10 years, with only 8% of immigrants living in the U.S. for less than a year being obese, compared to 19% of those who had been here for at least 15 years.
