A Brazilian court ordered temporary suspension of royalty payments to Monsanto by farmers who use Roundup Ready soy seeds in the state of Rio Grande do Sul after the farmers' cooperative argued Monsanto should collect royalties only on GMO seeds, not on the amount of soy produced. Monsanto said it would study the decision and determine whether to appeal. The lawyer for the 8,700 farmers in the cooperative said he has been approached by other cooperatives in the state about taking a similar legal strategy.
