U.S. Rep. Mary Bono (R-Calif.) has reintroduced a bill that would limit the ability of online marketers to install cookies on computers, including cookies used to track consumer behavior from site to site. However, the proposed legislation would exempt ISPs as well as e-commerce sites that use cookies to remember consumers and make recommendations. The House voted 399-1 in the last congressional session to approve nearly identical legislation, but the Senate failed to vote on it.
