In response to pressure from the business community and the governor to make graduation requirements more rigorous, the Massachusetts Board of Education today will begin considering whether to raise the passing score on the state exam. A Boston Globe analysis found that based on last year's test results, three times as many students would have failed the exam had they been required to attain the tougher level of "proficient," rather than the passing threshold of "needs improvement."
