Health Minister Lord Warner said in testimony before a legislative committee the giants of the pharmaceutical industry do not have an undue influence over the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, although it may have been slow in informing the public of its actions. The minister said there was no evidence MHRA's drug-approval decisions were influenced by the industry, contrary to complaints raised last year in the wake of the Merck's withdrawal of Vioxx from the market.
