As cited in numerous eMarketer reports, when it comes to consumer penetration and adoption of Internet technologies, especially broadband and mobile phones, Asian and European countries are far more advanced than the U.S. Even Canada is fully two years ahead of the U.S. in terms of household broadband adoption. But when it comes to consumer zeal for shopping and actually making purchases online, the U.S. is in another league. In the U.S., 61% of the nation's Internet users made a purchase online in 2004. The U.K. ranked second, with 51.5% of its Internet users making online purchases, followed by Germany at 47.9% and Canada at 47%.
