In a recent National Science Teachers Association e-mail survey, 31% of teachers say they feel pressured to teach alternatives to Darwinian theory, such as creationism or Intelligent Design, while 30% feel pushed to de-emphasize or omit evolution from their curriculum. National Academy of Sciences chief Bruce Alberts has called on academy members "to confront the increasing challenges to the teaching of evolution in public schools."
