Budget hotel chain Travelodge says it is making market share gains against rival Premier Travel Inn, owned by Whitbread, with 800 new rooms opened in the first three months of 2005 and plans to add 2,500 rooms by the end of the year. Travelodge's comparative sales for the first quarter increased between 4% and 5%, and the company said its 2004 results were "not dissimilar" to the 6.4% reported by Whitbread's Travel Inn budget hotel business.
