The proportions of whole grains, vegetables, meats and exercise
recommended by MyPyramid may be intimidating to average Americans, so nutritionists advise getting there incrementally. The Mayo Clinic's Dr. Donald Hensrud suggests eating larger quantities of high-fiber, low-calorie foods such as vegetables, fruits and beans while reducing intake of red meat slowly, and others advocate adding vegetables to pizzas and pureeing vegetables into soups for fussy children.
