India issued renewals to Monsanto to sell types of its biotech cotton
in three of the country's states for another two years, but declined
permission to three hybrids developed by MAHYCO based on the reports of
the state government, according to a spokesman for the environment
ministry. A Monsanto spokeswoman said the renewals apply to existing Bt
cotton hybrids that were previously registered in major cotton-growing
areas in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
