Wheat, rice, corn and other "calorie" crops soon will be replaced by energy-producing crops such as canola, soybeans, sunflowers and corn for ethanol, according to researchers at a biotech session of the Western Society of Weed Science. Production of those plants can be enhanced by biotechnology to help the U.S. lessen its dependence on oil from the Middle East for energy, researchers said.
