Leaders in medicine, including 16 Nobel laureates, are calling for a global fund of $3 billion annually to be established to develop drugs to better treat neglected diseases that cause millions of deaths in poor countries. The Drugs for Neglected Diseases fund says the effort is needed because drug companies won't pour money into research for diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis because such treatments would not be profitable.
