The Food and Drug Administration has frozen a project to wire hospitals with a new computer reporting system that allows the FDA to be directly notified when medical devices have deadly malfunctions or misuses. Only 350 hospitals of the FDA's goal of 500 have been set up with the MedSun system, and while the FDA says it can't fund further expansion for the next few years, critics say the decision goes against the FDA's vow to increase safety monitoring.
