Low-dose oral contraceptives can help treat painful menstruation in adolescent girls, and researchers recommend their use as "an important treatment option for the millions of adolescents" who have significant pain with their periods. The conclusion comes from a study of 76 girls age 19 years or younger, and compared with those on a placebo, the girls given the oral contraceptive had significantly less pain.
