Work is due to begin late next year on the $100 million demolition of the hydroelectric Milltown Dam, located near Missoula, Mont. The century-old, timber-crib dam, part of a 120-mile-long Superfund site along the Clark Fork river, has locked in more than 2.5 million cubic yards of sediment that has washed downstream from copper mining activities. It has also has blocked the passage of endangered bull trout, coming from upstream.
