Subway, which began testing toasted sandwiches in 2002, worried that the time it took to heat up a sandwich would drive customers away. After watching the success of Quiznos and Potbelly Sandwich Works, however, Subway decided to place a new oven from TurboChef Technologies in its restaurants, which some franchisees say has led to a 10% rise in sales.
