Mel Riddile, the National Association of Secondary School Principals' national high school principal of the year, is a dynamo who's boosted reading scores and attendance rates dramatically at his Northern Virginia campus. From giving chronic truants an autodialed 6 a.m. "wake-up call" to repairing the school's air-conditioning system himself, Riddile loves solving problems that stand in the way of student achievement.
