Two Colorado companies have united to use beer waste from the Coors Brewing Co. to process 1.5 million gallons of ethanol, with plans to double production by opening a second plant later this month. Merrick & Co., under a 15-year agreement with Coors, leases the land from the brewer, buys the beer residuals and makes the ethanol in its own plant for sale under contract with Valero Energy Corp.
