The NIH has awarded a $16 million, four-year contract to the WiCell Research Institute in Madison, Wis., to create the first federally funded embryonic stem cell bank and house at least half of the embryonic stem cells to be made available to researchers working on federally funded studies. The nonprofit group already has the rights to distribute five lines developed at the University of Wisconsin and has an agreement to distribute six lines held by ES Cell International of Singapore.
