A review of 291 patients with Crohn's disease who were followed for five years shows a common chronic use of narcotics, resulting in higher rates of disease and lower quality of life. The study showed that 13.1% of patients used narcotics, and the narcotics users took an average of 6.97 medications, compared with 4.7 among nonusers.
