As hotels compete to one-up each other on amenities, gifts such as flowers or fruit baskets for VIP guests are becoming old school. In their place are personalized amenities such as monogrammed bathrobes, stationary and pillowcases. "You're not just the guest in Room 505, you're Mr. John Smith in Room 505," one hotelier said.
